PBR World Finals, BlueDEF Finals, ABBI World Finals, PBR Finals Week Fan Zone, Heroes & Legends Celebration and more on tap for 23rd annual event
Pueblo, Colo. (May 31, 2016) – The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) has officially announced PBR Finals Week, fresh off the heels of its thrilling PBR Major, Last Cowboy Standing in Las Vegas on May 13–14. PBR Finals Week offers an expanded, enhanced, eight-day competition, now including the sport’s top two tour championships while featuring over 70 of the world’s top bull riders and roughly 700 of the best bulls in the business.
PBR Finals Week is worth more than $3.5 million in prize money to the athletes and bulls and offers an unparalleled experience to fans, culminating in awarding the 2016 PBR World Champion $1 million in Las Vegas’ brand new state-of-the-art T-Mobile Arena.
PBR’s week-long World Finals competition is scheduled to run from Saturday, Oct. 29 through Sunday, Nov. 6, and will include the PBR BlueDEF Finals, American Freestyle Bullfighting, concerts, VIP parties, ABBI (American Bucking Bulls Inc.) World Finals, charity outings, PBR Finals Week Fan Zone, and PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, culminating with the crowning of the 2016 PBR World Champion.
The PBR Finals Week competition schedule is as follows:
Oct. 29-31 – BlueDEF Finals
Nov. 1-5 – ABBI World Finals
Oct. 29-31 and Nov 2-5 – Chris Shivers Mini-Bulls World Finals
Nov. 2-6 – PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals
PBR Finals Week kicks off at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center Saturday, Oct. 29 through Monday, Oct. 31. The Top 36 men of the BlueDEF Tour (BDT), presented by Real Time Pain Relief, plus four champion qualifiers from PBR’s international tours in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico, will be contending for five spots on the 2016 PBR World Finals roster. The BDT is the premier expansion tour for the PBR which features riders competing at 25 events across the country.
After three days of competition, comprised of three long rounds and a Championship Round, one man will win $50,000 as the overall 2016 BlueDEF Champion and a spot in the PBR World Finals the following weekend. Additionally, the winner of the BlueDEF Finals, the event’s second and third place finishers, and the top finishing international athlete will join the top bull riding stars in the world as they fight for the crown jewel of bull riding – the $1 million PBR World Championship.
ABBI will supply the bovines that will go up against PBR bull riders during the BlueDEF Finals, as part of the ABBI World Finals. There will be a total purse of over $1 million going to the top bulls in competition, with the 2016 ABBI Classic Champion receiving $200,000.
After each round of competition, fans can enjoy musical entertainment from popular country artists to be announced at a later date. In addition to the concerts, all three days of the BDT Finals will include the Chris Shivers Mini-Bulls World Finals, American Freestyle Bullfights and the PokerRodeo National Finals – all events are included with a purchase of a BDT Finals ticket.
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, PBR will celebrate the first night of the 2016 Built Ford Tough World Finals as it christens the new, state of the art T-Mobile Arena with the first dirt event in the facility. Atop more than 850 tons of dirt, bull riding’s strapping stars – J.B. Mauney, Guilherme Marchi, Fabiano Vieira, Joao Ricardo Vieira, Mike Lee, superstar young guns Kaique Pacheco, Derek Kolbaba, Jess Lockwood and more will take on the world’s rankest bulls, including Jared Allen’s Air Time and Magic Train, Sweet Pro’s Long John, Sweet Pro’s Bruiser, Cochise, Stanley FatMax and other bovine athletes in the battle of the season. At the end of the five-day affair, only one of each will have earned the right to be called “2016 PBR World Champion.”
With the expanded PBR World Finals and new host venue in T-Mobile Arena, the PBR is embarking on a new era in Las Vegas, launching the sport of bull riding into the next level of professional sports.
The BlueDEF Finals will begin at 7 p.m. each day, Saturday, Oct. 29, through Monday, Oct. 31. The PBR Finals Week Fan Zone includes 80,000 square feet of Western wares, clothing, equipment, food, entertainment, concerts, etc., filling South Point’s Exhibition Hall as well as the Arena Concourse. The PBR Finals Week Fan Zone will be free to the general public and open Oct. 29-31 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Nov. 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Heroes & Legends Celebration, a PBR tradition, will take place at South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, honoring the legendary athletes and iconic women of bull riding.
CBS Sports Network will carry all of the PBR World Finals action live from Nov. 2-4 at 9:30 p.m. ET. Round 4 will air on CBS Sports Network at 10:30 p.m. ET onSaturday, Nov. 5 and the final rounds will air at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 6.
